Understanding the Mission of The United Methodist Church

The mission of The United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. This mission statement, adopted by the General Conference, guides everything we do as a denomination.

What Does It Mean to Make Disciples?

Making disciples involves inviting people into a relationship with Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith. This happens through worship, study, fellowship, and service. Every local church is called to create environments where people can encounter God and develop as followers of Christ.

Transformation of the World

Our mission doesn't stop at personal faith development. We are called to transform the world by addressing injustice, serving those in need, and working toward God's vision of shalom—a world of peace, wholeness, and right relationships.

Living Out the Mission

United Methodists live out this mission in countless ways: feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, advocating for justice, supporting education, providing disaster relief, and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. From local congregations to global initiatives, we work together to fulfill our calling.
