What is General Conference?

General Conference is the supreme governing body of The United Methodist Church — the only official body that can speak for the entire denomination. Delegates from annual conferences across the globe gather to review and revise church law, set the connectional budget, and chart the direction of the denomination for the next four years.

The UMC is a global church, and General Conference reflects that: delegates arrive from the United States, Africa, Europe, and the Philippines, bringing perspectives shaped by vastly different cultural and ministry contexts. Every vote carries weight for more than 10 million members worldwide.
