A day celebrating the ministry of lay people in The United Methodist Church, with worship led by laity and honoring their contributions to the church's mission.
Laity Sunday is a day to celebrate the ministry of all lay members of The United Methodist Church. On this day, congregations are encouraged to have laity lead all aspects of worship — preaching, liturgy, music, and prayer — recognizing that every Christian is called to ministry.
How to Observe
- Invite lay members to preach, lead prayers, read scripture, and serve communion
- Recognize the diverse ministries of laity in your congregation — teachers, caregivers, advocates, volunteers
- Use the occasion to explore what it means for every baptized person to be in ministry
